Amplitude Multisport was founded on the premise that individuals of all shapes, sizes, ages and abilities can reach their goals, whatever they might be – athletic and otherwise. My enthusiasm for triathlon coaching and competition comes from not only the thrill of race day, but also the qualities the sport fosters: dedication and commitment to a goal, appreciation for a healthy lifestyle, and support for others – not to mention yet another justification to spend money on travel!
Amplitude Multisport has been given the honorable distinction as the official coaching service of Operation Rebound. This program, sponsored by the Challenged Athlete Foundation, porvides free endurance training to recently disabled veterans of the armed services.
Endurance sports unquestionably build character, particularly in those whose athletic ambitions had once laid dormant. To willingly push through discomfort for the sake of a goal – be it a specific time or to finish – creates a mindset of confidence that bleeds into all aspects of life.
As a physically challenged athlete myself, I didn’t even begin to tap into my own endurance sport abilities until after I suffered an amputation of my left leg below the knee. The car accident in December 1992 taught me that my parts are on loan and that ability to even walk can never again be taken for granted. I would like to impart to anyone interested the same training philosophies and motivations that have garnered me world championships, Paralympic medals, and, to date, nine Ironman finish lines – with a World Record 10:09:17 at the 2005 Ironman Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Be your best,
Paul Martin
